Good Night for TV

I don't watch a ton of TV but I do love My Name is Earl and The Office which both premier tonight on NBC. Yea!!!

This morning "Jim" and "Pam" were on The Today Show and they told Merideth Viera that all questions about the fate of their characters would be answered in tonight's episode. My money is on them not getting together. Surely they won't ruin this great love story by actually having the characters hook up. Unrequited love is so much sexier than the real thing.

It's funny. People are always saying how "girly" Spade seems in real life so it cracked me up to see him drag. I wish I could get my hair to "wing" like that!

Paris: "I'm, like, not smart"

I find those "Girls Gone Wild" commercials so offensive that I can hardly stand to watch stations like Comedy Central late at night. Every commercial break I have to watch some girl lick another girl's tits or pull down her thong. I just find it gross and I feel sorry for these girls because they are so incredibly stupid. So, it should come as no surprise that I find Joe Francis to be one creepy S.O.B. Is it wrong that I find the fact he was ass-raped with a dildo to be so funny?

Today's Page Six has the latest in the trial of Darnell Riley, the guy who videotaped Francis' humiliation then tried to extort money from him. Riley was also trying to extort money from Paris Hilton. Paris is the one who clued Joe in on Riley, which led to Riley being arrested and charged. He has pleaded guilty and has received a 10 year sentence for the crimes.

According to the article, Paris was being questioned by the police about the incident when she told them she doesn't really remember what happened. She said: "Like I really . . . I don't remember. I'm not like that smart".

Well, duh! She's friends with Joe Francis and she makes out with Brandon "Oilslick" Davis!

The best part is this whole sordid tale is set to air on Dateline this Saturday night, including the tapes of Paris admitting that she isn't very bright! Dateline has the video of Joe's humiliation but they don't plan to air it. God, I would love that tape to be leaked to the internet!

My Thoughts on My Blog

Guys, I'm gonna take a little break from this blog. There are only so many ways to say that Jake Gyllenhaal is hot or that Mischa Barton dresses like an assclown. We all know Lindsay Lohan's life is a total mess and that Paris Hilton is a skank. Besides, other bloggers say it all in a much funnier way than I do. (Thinking of Michael K. of Dlisted)

I am still going to post here however, just not eight posts a day. Right now, I'm thinking about working on my other blog, Guadalupe Days. It's a little more personal than this one. It may not interest some of you as much because it is centered on my life in Texas. However, celebrity blogs are a dime a dozen and I cannot find a blog about Texas, Texas music, sports, movies, etc. Most of the Texas blogs I've found center on Christianity (that's life in the Bible Belt). I feel like I could do something different over there.

However, some of my favorite celebrities are Texans! Matthew McConaughey is a very famous Texan but there are many more out there with Texas roots so I'll still be keeping up with them over there.

I also want to write more about the great Texas music scene. YouTube has a lot of videos of my favorite artists like Kevin Fowler, Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, and Jerry Jeff Walker. They aren't all great quality but at least it's a means of sharing these great artists with you.

I've started a little series about Texas movies as well. It's just me ruminating on my favorite movies that are set in the Lone Star State. I'm not any sort of expert on anything, of course. Everything I do is just for fun and not meant to be scholarly or anything like that.

All that plus pictures that I take of the Texas Hill Country and the stuff I do around here will be part of it. And guess what? I'm gonna finish my Hill Country Countdown!!!! I sort of forgot about it for a while due to life and whatnot being a bit of a distraction. So, if you are interested check it out!

Thanks to everyone who reads Pink Armadillo on a regular basis. I'll still be posting stuff here so don't forget to check in. (Maybe I can even get a pic to upload someday!) It's just going to be a little different.

One thing I would like to say is that I have noticed a lot of the "bigger" blogs have had to add additional writers. When this happens it changes the whole tone of the blog. I understand why they do this though. This blogging thing feels like a job after awhile and really it is just a hobby. However, I remember when I was addicted to Pink is the New Blog and Trent wasn't getting his posts up at his usual time. Everyone started complaining. I was even complaining! Well, since Trent has managed to become famous from his blog I guess he needs to take it seriously but my blogs are just for fun. I'm not trying to be the next Trent!

Gov. Ann Richards Passes Away at 73

Former Texas Governor Ann Richards passed away yesterday at the age of 73 after battling esophageal cancer.

Ann only served one term as governor but in that term she appointed more women and minorities to state positions than any one before her. She worked hard to attract the film industry to Texas. And for her 60th birthday, she celebrated by getting her motorcycle license.

She had a larger-than-life personality. She was smart, witty and cheeky. She was a lot of fun as Governor, especially in contrast with the non-personality we have now, Rick Perry.

Ann is a Texas legend and she will be missed.

This is another site I found via Gawker and I can't quit looking at it! It's nothing short of genius!

It's called Indexed and this guy draws all these little graphs and vin diagrams about all sorts of things. I thought this one was a good one for Britney Spears. Maybe if she see's this she will finally get the message to stop chewing gum on national tv.

Whoa! Whitney Houston is looking rough! Her wig is a mess. No, the crack has not been good to Ms. Whitney.

She managed to come out of her bathroom long enough to attend the 15th Annual Ella Awards with her aunt Dionne Warwick and Clive Davis.

They say Whitney is on the come-back and is heading to the studio within weeks. Clive Davis is said to be working on the album with her. I hope the drugs haven't ruined her voice.

Something Different

I got sidetracked this morning, which often happens when you start clicking around on the internet. I found a link via Gawker to a website I've found myself directed to before called McSweeney's. To "celebrate" the release of the book Everything That Rises: A Book of Convergences by Lawrence Welscher they had a contest where readers sent in examples of convergent images, or "an unlikely, striking pair of images". It was very interesting although the discussion does get a little deep. If you are tired of reading about Paris & Linds you might find this interesting and refreshing.

The other site I spent the morning perusing I found via Cityrag (and now I see Gawker has linked to it as well). It is a collection of vintage illustrations (from around the 1940's) that are advertisements, mostly for food, and featuring some possessed kiddies. Look at this guy (left). The reddish tint to his skin and the way the light source is coming from under his face make him look like the son of Satan. Is he eating pork-and-beans or someone's soul? There are many more of these over at Plan59. Be sure to look at the food at the bottom. Those potato-pea boats look like vomit. Hard to believe that anyone could think the food in these ads looks appetizing!

Daniel Smith Death Not Due to Natural Cause

People reports that Daniel Smith, son of Anna Nicole Smith did not die of natural causes.

"The cause of death is not natural," Her Majesty's Coroner Linda P. Virgill tells PEOPLE. "However, we wish to reserve the cause of death at this time pending the toxicologist examination and report for confirmation of cause of death. Friday is the likely release date for the autopsy and toxicology report."

At this point it is looking like a drug overdose of some sort. There will be an inquest to determine what happened but it likely won't occur until October or November.

According to Virgill, a coroner's inquest with a jury will take place, and Anna Nicole Smith will likely be asked for her testimony. "All persons who are relevant witnesses, like his mother and hospital staff and airline personnel who had contact with him, would have to testify," Virgill says. "The inquest would happen late October or early November to determine how, when and by what manner Daniel came to his death."

This is just such sad news. No matter what anyone thinks about Anna Nicole, this sort of thing is just heartbreaking.

Did Britney Give Birth Today?

I don't know if this has been confirmed yet but earlier today The National Enquirer reported that Britney Spears had given birth to baby number two, a boy. I haven't seen this in any mainstream media. It's probably not true but since everyone else is blogging about it I thought I'd go ahead and mention it.

If it had been an announcement in Life & Style I'd know it was made up, but sometimes The Enquirer does get the scoop. We'll have to wait and see...

UPDATE: Now Us Weekly is reporting that Britney gave birth to a 6 lb. 11 oz. baby boy.

If it's true then I guess congratulations are in order, so "Congrats" to Britney and KFed on the birth of their new baby boy.

Paris Banned From Party

It looks as if the Paris Hilton backlash has begun! It's about time. According to today's Page Six:

PARIS Hilton is not wanted at Ian Schrager's Gramercy Park Hotel. Friday night, after partying at Marquee and drinking "lots" of vodka and pineapple juice, Hilton tried to join Orlando Bloom, Winona Ryder and Josh Lucas in the hotel's Rose Bar, but bouncer Damien stopped her due to Schrager's decree that "the likes of Paris Hilton and her ilk are not welcome here." Hilton had further bad luck Sunday when she crashed the party at Milla Jovovich's townhouse - after the bash was over.

That's great...too funny! This pic is a little older, I'm not sure when it was taken but I hate her outfit. Mostly I really do not like the ankle boots with a skirt. You need long, skinny legs for these boots and if Paris can't make it work I doubt many people could. (I guess that's sort of a backhanded compliment to Paris.)

It's A Little Hotter In Austin Today

Guess who is in Austin? Only the trifecta of hotness: Lance Armstrong, Matthew McConaughey, and Jake Gyllenhaal. The guys are in Austin for the Ohio State game and dropped by the Longhorn's practice. In case y'all don't know, tonight at 7 central no. 2 UT plays no. 1 Ohio State. It's the biggest college game of the weekend. Go 'horns!

Lance, Matt, and Jake watched the practice and hung out with the players. The picture is from the UT Longhorns site and shows them hanging out with the team. (Notice Jakey's LiveStrong bracelet!) Some lucky dog got to interview these hotties. It's a good interview, especially if you are a UT fan. Here are some parts you might find interesting:

1. Jake IS NOT playing Lance in a movie. At least it's not a done deal, like has been said.

(Armstrong) People ask me all the time, and it's not my job to (decide who plays me). It's the studio's job to cast it, and it's the artist's job to read the script and say, 'You know what? I want to do it or I don't want to do it. I like it or I don't like it.' We're not to that point yet. A couple of weeks ago, all of that came out, and it was like, 'What?'
(Gyllenhaal) The bottom line is that Lance and I are good friends and I respect everything that he's done, and it's not about a movie right now.

2. Lance called Jake up one day and asked him to go for a bike ride. That's how they met.

How did you meet Lance? One day, I got a phone call from Mr. Armstrong and he said, 'How are you doing, Jake? This is Lance Armstrong. Do you want to go for a (bike) ride?' And we went for a ride, and that was basically it.

3. Maybe the reason Matt's relationship with Penelope Cruz ultimately failed is because he couldn't quit thinking about Longhorn football!

(The team) were singing the song you taught them during that day before, and you just sang it again. How does that make you feel? It's cool, man. It was just a little ditty that I woke up in the middle of the night about a year ago, and I was in Spain. I was like, 'You know what, man? They don't think so, they know it -- Somebody don't think so, somebody knows so.' I feel good man, it's fun.

Notice how Matt says he was in Spain! Probably with Penelope. And I really want to hear this song.

Lindsay's Jewelry Stolen

Lindsay Lohan got ripped off at Heathrow Airport. An Hermes Birkin bag filled with reportedly up to $1 million in jewelry was apparently stolen off Lindsay's luggage trolley. (source)

I'm sorry for that. Why wasn't she watching it more closely? The bag alone is worth thousands of dollars without the jewelry. I don't have anything that costs as much as the things Lindsay has and I watch my stuff like a hawk when I'm in a crowded airport. If you can afford that expensive jewelry you should be able to afford a security guard!

UPDATE: A good citizen "found" Lindsay's bag and returned it. No report yet if anything was missing.

I'm sure Tom Cruise and Kat(i)e Holmes are thanking L. Ron Hubbard right now for Paris Hilton! What could be better than finally getting to see little Suri (and thus, creating a whole new batch of "Suri is an alien" jokes!) than Paris Hilton being-finally-arrested for DUI?

One (of the many) drawbacks to being Paris Hilton is that, when you exist for the paparazzi, for every glamorous moment they catch, they will also catch a bad moment. But this is just all part of the show. I'm sure if anyone understands that concept it would be Paris!

Still, I bet Nicole Richie is loving this!

Trend Watch: Red, White, and Black

I've been collecting these pictures of Christina Aguilera because I really like the red, white and black outfits she's been rocking as of late. Red is definitely an "it" color this fall, as evidenced by all the red shoes I saw last time I hit The Shops at La Cantera.

I threw in the top photo of Paris because 1) that was taken last night before her arrest and 2) it also illustrates the red, white, and black trend.

Buying an entire wardrobe which consists of only three colors sure makes it easy to mix and match. I also think red is the perfect foil to the animal prints which are hot again this fall. (See Xtina in the red dress, khaki trench and too cute leopard shoes and purse.)

I also love her look below, with the black-and-white striped cardigan with the red purse. Other than the plastic-framed sunglasses, I really like this look. Am I a total dork for saying that I want a belt like Paris'...in red and black? Oh, well...

Ashton Kutcher is not someone I would turn to for wise words, but he recently was quoted as saying this about his relationship with wife Demi Moore:

Maybe someone should explain this concept to Lisa Marie Presley's husband, Michael Lockwood. He accompanied his wife to New York's Rainbow Room where she announced the new M.A.C. Viva Glam campaign. There is nothing glam about his look at all. He's a couple of rocks away from looking like Pete Doherty. What is he wearing? Pajamas? What's up with his purse? And the hair! My god, man! Brush your hair! How much do you want to bet he doesn't brush his teeth, either?

Mischa Barton is one of those celebrities that I would just as soon ignore. I've never seen that tv show she was on, or anything else she's done. But how can I ignore her when she goes around dressing the way she does! I thought she had a stylist. In fact, her stylist is supposedly Rachel Zoe. It seems hard to believe, when fellow Zoe-bot Nicole Richie usually looks so cute (emaciated, but cute, clothing-wise). There's nothing really to say about Mischa's outfit, the fugliness speaks for itself!

Paris is Arrested!

What a way to be brought back down to earth! Paris Hilton, who seems to think she is invincible, was arrested last night on suspicion of DUI. It's about time the LAPD started doing their job when it comes to Paris.

Hilton was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. after being pulled over in Hollywood, said police Officer I. Isabella, who declined to give his first name.
Police stopped Hilton because she was "driving erratically," he said.
"The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence," Isabella said, reading a police statement.
Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and released, he said. (source)

Of course, her spokesperson Eliot Mintz is trying to spin the story and say that Paris only had one margarita and that she was really just hungry and tired, not drunk.

Well, this is the moment we've all been waiting for: Suri Cruise made her public debut last night on Katie Couric's maiden newscast. (No, I didn't watch Katie!)

According to People, Kat(i)e Holmes is less than thrilled over all the rumors surrounding the birth of her daughter. People quotes Katie in the Vanity Fair article:

The rumor(s) "eat away at me because it's just not okay. … Some of the crap that's out there – the stuff that's said about my parents and my siblings (implying that they didn't approve of her relationship with Cruise, 44) – it's really frustrating the amount of s– that's out there. And the stuff they say about Suri? You shouldn't say that about us, and you can't say that about my child."

I'm sure she's referring to stuff like this.

Anyway, a lot of people are saying Suri looks Asian! I'm sure she's really their baby. (She sort of does look like Tom.)

Holy Toledo! What is Mischa Barton wearing? This is the scariest excuse for an outfit I've seen ever!

Is that a skirt? Shorts? A diaper? Is it just a swath of fabric that she wrapped around her hips and tied in a bow? I can't figure it out! It barely covers her naughty bits. She wore this to the grocery store, people! Mischa, please cover your bits and keep them away from the produce!

Banksy has replaced Hilton's CD with his own remixes and given them titles such as Why am I Famous?, What Have I Done? and What Am I For?
He has also changed pictures of her on the CD sleeve to show the US socialite topless and with a dog's head.
A spokeswoman for Banksy said he had doctored 500 copies of her debut album Paris in 48 record shops across the UK. (source)

The sick thing is now people will purchase these doctored CD's and that will lead to bigger sales of Paris real CD, since Banksy didn't alter the bar codes.

In other Paris "news", she, along with Brandon Davis and Sean Combs, were denied entrance to Bungalow 8. That's pretty funny, but the fact that the self-proclaimed princess stood outside the club and cried is hilarious. Of course, Brandon through a big fit (I can hear it now: Do you know who my grandma is? Do you know how much money I've inherited?) which caused the police to be called.

I wish they'd take his fat ass to jail. I'd love for Brandon to have to spend a night amongst the hoi polloi. Of course, he'd act like a brat and get his ass kicked! It might do him some good. For the hundreth time Brandon: No one cares about how much money you have! No go take a shower!

Carolyn Kepcher has been fired from The Trump Organization. The Donald felt like she was spending too much time on her own projects and not minding his business so he gave her the axe.

"She became a prima donna," said one insider. "Being on 'The Apprentice' went to her head. She was no longer focused on business. She was giving speeches for $25,000 and doing endorsements."

Insiders say that when Trump tried to reach her recently, she was off on a trip to make a speech. Another time, while giving a tour of the pro shop at the Briarcliff club, she didn't seem to know the prices on any of the merchandise.

"Trump told her what she had to do was take some time off and spend it with her family, and then get another job," said an insider. "They have a great relationship."

So, she will be replaced this season by Ivanka Trump. This doesn't surprise me at all. I wonder if it's the real reason Carolyn got fired? Ivanka has been doing a lot of magazine spreads this summer. I think she will end up with the fame going to her head as well. At times I think Ivanka could end up being Paris Hilton with a degree. (Ivanka graduated from Wharton Business School.)

I normally love, love, love the way Stacy London dresses. I think the outfits she wears on "What Not to Wear" are simple, elegant, and age appropriate. I also love how she rocks that grey streak. But, Stacey! What are you wearing to the Emmy's?!?

I think this dress is too youthful for her. It's more of a cocktail dress whereas the Emmy's are about the evening gown. This would be cute for a cocktail party but, and I hate to say this, it doesn't do anything for me--or her--on the red carpet.

And where's Clinton Kelly? I'd love to see what he wore, if he came. I love Clinton & Stacy! I'd love to be on "WNTW" but since I've been watching it I probably have too much style to get on the show!! (I crack myself up. Which is good since I'm probably the only one who laughs at my jokes.)

Kyra Phillips, an anchor on CNN, forgot to turn off her mic before she went to the bathroom. You can her hear talking to another woman and the whole thing went out live on CNN during President Bush's Katrina address. I'm sure that address was watched by literally millions of people.

Oh, the mortification! We hear Kyra talking about her boyfriend, who is a very "passionate person" and her sister-in-law who is apparently a "control-freak". You can also hear her zip up! Must See!

Her album is a dud which is no surprise. I really don't know who would buy this thing, but I could say the same about Jessica and Ashlee Simpson.

Speaking of Jessica, "Public Affair" must be the most light-weight pop tune ever produced. Who DID produce this song, I wonder? Believe it or not, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis have production credits on her new album. I was shocked because I was actually thinking to myself "She should get Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to produce her" and when I found out they had I couldn't believe it!

Not surprisingly, however, Paris' producer, Scott Storch also had a hand in this crap. Well, I guess you can't blame the producers. It's gotta be hard when the people you are producing have so little talent.

I haven't heard the album but this review on MSN cracked me up:

So why did Simpson end up with banal, ridiculous dance songs like "Push Your Tush" and uninspired ballads? Even her attempt to mine her busted love life for emotion falls flat — "I Don't Want To Care" features verses that would barely get a passing grade in a Songwriting 101 class, like, "I don't want to care about us, I don't want to care at all anymore, I used to want to care a little bit, but now I care way too much ... I don't wanna care anymore."

Too bad that lyric also sums up how most people feel about Jess! Maybe if this album flops she will just go away! (But I won't hold my breath.)

I am watching the Emmy's but I'm not live blogging it like I did for the Oscars. So far, Conan O'Brien has been great. His song and dance number about NBC was hilarious. (I lurve Conan!)

Most of the ladies look very elegant. I was excited to see what Sandra Oh would wear since in the past I've thought her choices were interesting and very flattering. I don't like what she is wearing tonight! Looking at all those heavy necklaces makes my neck tired! I don't really like the dress either. Oh, well...there's always next year.

I also watched the E! red carpet coverage. Could it be any less organized? Ryan Seacrest is so afraid of people thinking that he's gay that whenever anyone answered the question "Who are you wearing?" he would say "That means nothing to me." The red carpet is ALL about the dresses and the designers. Why have Seacrest out there if he doesn't want to talk about the clothes? I find him very annoying, but I find all those people who do the red carpet interviews annoying!

These are just a couple of my favorite Tom Cruise movies. He's had some misses, of course (Far and Away, Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky). I really think that he was coming into his own as an actor. Sure, I've always thought it was weird that he chose the "father-issue" roles. (Even LeStadt had "father" issues...with his vampire father!) And for a while I thought that he always played the "young, hotshot pilot/racecar driver/car salesman/lawyer/guru/whatever a little too often. However, he won me over with Jerry McGuire.

To be honest, it all started with Risky Business. Who couldn't love Joel? Sure, I saw Legend. It sucked. But he was great in Top Gun, a movie I appreciate more each time I see it. It's a great action movie, even though it is flawed. (Hello, wimpy Dr. Mark Green as Goose? It's Anthony Edwards' only butch character!) A Few Good Men is another favorite. "I want the truth!" Classic! But, I love, love Jerry McGuire. It's written/directed by Cameron Crowe who I also love and was Texan Renee Zellweger's break-out role; Cuba Gooding, Jr. may have won the (Best Supporting) Oscar but this is the film for which Tom should've won Best Actor. His performance was funny and dramatic. It was spot-on in my opinion.

Ever since his appearance on The Tonight Show, where he cracked up describing how he deprived a passenger on his plane of oxygen on purpose (to have enough for them to fly home) I've thought he was strange. I'm just really sad that all this has happened.

I actually hope that the IRS or someone will finally investigate the "Church of Scientology". They are taxing celebrity swag now, afterall. Do they not realize how much tax money they are missing out on by letting this cult have tax-free status? I hope we can Save Tom Cruise!

I think Paramount will regret this decision. I really think Tom still has a chance to redeem his image and come back on top. He really is a good actor and I think we want to see him come back. He's done some crazy things but has any of it been illegal? Immoral? Sure his response to medication is controversial and he offended some people but it's just his opinion (and "the Church's". And I think he's been brainwashed.) Don't get me wrong...I think he's crazy! But, I think a lot of people are probably crazy to an extent. I just don't think that what he's done is so bad that he couldn't recover without some really good PR spin.

Good Luck, Tom!!! You can do whatever you want to do from now on. Do a Barbara Walters-type special and let us have a look at Suri. It could do wonders. Then get some good scripts and produce some movies for yourself. Hopefully, it's not too late!

Snakes on a Plane Opening Weekend

A lot has been made about SoaP opening with only $15 million this weekend. People are saying that it is a disappointment and didn't live up to the hype. I heartily disagree! This movie probably would have gone straight to video, especially with a name like Pacific Air 121 or whatever they were going to change it to. Now, I haven't seen it yet but I really think Hollywood makes too big a deal out of opening weekend results. I mean, this wasn't Pirates of the Carribbean! It never was supposed to compete with those types of movies. In a world where we have Basketcase 2 AND 3 (and it wouldn't surprise if there were a Basketcase 4 out there) people are already saying that there won't be a SoaP sequel due to the movie's "poor box office."

Did they expect a $100 million opening weekend? WTF? It opened at number one! I think the viral marketing campaign worked. Like Sam Jackson said: Snakes on a Plane. You either want to see that or you don't!

They are back, this time performing Jessica Simpson's "A Public Affair" (above). It's great, but hardly compares to the classic Backstreet Boys send-ups, which you can see here or here.

Holy Schmoly! I've been trying to post this pic for 3 days and it hasn't worked. I'm so excited!

Here's the deal...for whatever reason, I do really like Nicole Richie. I think she handled herself very well after her falling out with Paris. And she is consistently the best dressed of any of these tabloid stars. I know she is only famous for being famous, basically but I really love the way she dresses.

However, I am not a fan of her weight loss. A lot of people have said that she looks like she is gaining weight and point out her leg muscles...Like I said the other day, I think she has LOST more weight and what we are seeing is her muscle with no fatty tissue around it. In some of the recent pics I've seen of her, her ligaments are visible in her arms and legs. When you can see where the muscle attatches to the bone a person is too thin.

I've read in some blogs comments sections where people are saying that those of us who say anything about Nicole's weight are "just jealous" and "fat". The people who are making comments like seem to me to also be afflicted with this eating disorder. I'm jealous of Nicole's wardrobe but not her body. This isn't me being mean, either. I'm just expressing my concern because I find it amazing that her parents haven't put her in the hospital.

I really hope someone will help her and she doesn't die.

Movie Review: Syriana

Heck no I didn't abandon my blog! I went on vacation, finally. It was nice to have a whole week with nothing to worry about...well, except terrorism and the recession and the fact it costs $30 for 10 gallons of gas. I try to keep politics out of my blog but that is a pretty good lead-in for this review of Syriana.

Syriana was a very good film but I can't say it was enjoyable to watch. First off, the cast was top-notch. George Clooney, Amanda Peet, Matt Damon, Jeffrey Wright, Chris Cooper are the main players and all deliver great performances. The story lines are interwoven so you do have to pay close attention to every scene. But, it comes together in the end and its pretty horrific!

The story covers economic advisers, CIA, Arab princes, the Chinese, American government investigators, Texas oil barrons, and Islamic terrorists, interweaving the stories together to give us a pretty good idea of just how far people are willing to go to control this natural resource. It shows how corrupt governments are and how greedy people will do anything to have more, more, more.

A lot of the story is based on the actual experiences of CIA agent Bob Barnes, who is played by Clooney. One thing about a lot of the scenes that I noticed was how Godfather the whole thing seemed, which shouldn't surprise because almost everyone involved is a criminal by conventional definition. I can't say much without giving away the whole story, but your worst fears about our government are realized, I can assure you.

One of the stories I really liked was about the young Pakastani workers and how they become indoctrinated through the Islam school to become matyrs. Some people may think the portrayal was too sympathetic, but I have always felt a lot of those people have been horribly misguided. This movie almost makes the case that if there were enough good jobs to go around we wouldn't have terrorists. I don't know about that. There will always be fanatics and there will always be sheep to follow them.

One case the movie makes is that turmoil in the Middle East is good for the oil business. Big Oil says they are supporting the "liberation" of the Middle East but really they are just trying to get their hands on the oil. It's not surprising to me.

I definitely think every one in the world should see this movie. It will open a lot of people's eyes as to what is really going on in the world today. I believe it will make you see things in a whole new light. I have to get a little political and say that if any one still thinks it's an accident that we have Bush and Cheney in the White House, a war in the Middle East, and sky-high gas prices then maybe this movie will finally convince you that it's not coincidence.

Did anyone watch South Park last night? They showed the infamous "Bloody Mary" episode. I saw it when it first aired. Afterward, the Catholics had a shitfit and Comedy Central caved to pressure and agreed to not air it again.

Why pull it in the first place if you're going to show it again anyway? It only gives power to the censors.

Yesterday's blind item about the hunky actor and top athlete had everyone buzzing. The consensus was that the item had to refer to Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong. Today's Awful Truth reports that Matt and Lance had a bash at Matt's house (where Lance is currently shaking up as well). There were apparently a lot of hot young women around. Ted wonders if it all wasn't just a little too showy? As in "just for show". Dunno. Gay or straight, I love Matt and Lance either way.

Speaking of Ted Casablanca, who come to think of it completes the gay Texan trifecta for this item, Defamer had an interesting post the other day regarding his employment with E!. Ted has been missing from the news shows. Seems the network's new star, Ryan Seacrest, may not be too appreciative of his dirt being spread in Ted's column. Now, as far as I know Ryan isn't from Texas, but his hetero-ness is often questioned among the gossips. Did Ryan have Ted taken off air? Dunno about this either, but I do know that I couldn't care less about Seacrest. The Awful Truth is the only thing I care about!

Mel Gibson's Anti-Semitic Rant

Y'all may know about Mel Gibson's arrest for dui by now. It's not the dui that is making trouble for him; it's his words. I just have to say that I am totally appalled and disgusted by Mel Gibson's words. According to TMZ, who obtained the police report, the actor went on an anti-semitic rant during his arrest. A sampling:

The report says Gibson then launched into a barrage of anti-Semitic statements: "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

I just find that sort of attitude disgusting. When he was making Passion of the Christ (which I did not watch) his father got some press for saying that the holocaust didn't happen. People who actually think that way are so freakin' ignorant that I can't even stand that they live on the same planet as me.

I'd just like to go on record as saying that I personally am offended by his comments. I'm not Jewish, of course, but I do not like singling out one group and saying that they are all this way or that way.

I've paid my money to watch his movies in the past and have found him to be a very good actor. Now, I never want to see another movie of his or give him one more dollar of my money. Gibson is no better than a member of the KKK or other hate groups. His speech is incredibly dangerous.

What he said wasn't criminal, of course, as we do have freedom of speech in this country. But the only way to eradicate this thinking in our society is to speak up against it and drown it out.

Just when you think it is going to be a boring day for gossip this letter hits the internet. It seems Ms. Lindsay Lohan is in trouble for holding up production of her new film Georgia Rule. The owner of the production company basically is calling bullshit on Lohan's excuses, most notably her hospitilization this week for "heat exhaustion". It's been well-reported that she was partying up until 30 minutes before she had to be on set.

I swear, I'd love to tell you all the one about the reality-TV dude who's diddling other guys in the pools of Hollywood boy-boy shindigs, but that one's just as tired (ultimately) as the one I'm about to spill. I mean, come on.
Okay, okay, so I will do--so to speak--the guy dish first: See, there's this boob-tube celeb who's, like, rather good-looking. Meatless Member has a nice face. Ahhh! Ewan McGregor! I just love him. Even though he became famous after playing a heroin addict in Trainspotting, I still think he has that old-school movie star thing going on. He's incredibly cute and so amazingly talented. I'm so glad that he is making this Woody Allen film. Here he is on the set of the as-yet-untitled movie. Ewan is the type of actor that great directors should want to work with more often.

This movie also stars Colin Farrell as Ewan's brother. Now, I'm not a big fan of Colin's but I did see him on The Today Show yesterday morning. He certainly has that bad boy charm thing down pat. I must admit he was pretty funny. I loved it when he asked Matt "are you being glib, Matt?" Still, I don't know about this new Miami Vice movie. I'll probably just watch it on DVD. At least it was directed by Michael Mann, who developed the TV show. It should be interesting to see his modern-day version of the story.

Brangie at the Beach

It's been a while since we've seen these guys out and about together. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt took Maddox to the beach in Malibu. They left Zahara and Shiloh at home, I guess. I wonder if this is the same Malibu beach that Jennifer Aniston likes to take her long walks on?

Angie looks great as always but what is with Brad's hat? Is he turning into Jude Law? What's next, skinny scarves and vests? Oy! Can't Angie put a stop to this?

I just love Maddox's mohawk, though. He is adorable.

Well, she looks tons better these days, even though I'm afraid she is getting too thin. At any rate, she must still need a stylist because I just don't see how a sane person would think that grey ankle boots were the best choice of footwear for this casual outfit. I've been over at Cracked all day. They have a great countdown of the eleven best Chappelle's Show skits. Wayne Brady, The Racial Draft, The Mad Real World and others. It's great so go check it out and watch all the funniest stuff from the show.

My favorite skit is The Black Klan Leader. It's from the first episode and it's the one that got me hooked on the show. This one I'm posting, Black Bush, is funny as hell and it has Chappelle as a black President Bush and Jamie Foxx as Black Tony Blair.

Tuesday is so boring! Do I care that Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro finally admitted their marriage is over? Not really. Thankfully, today's Blind Vice, from Ted over at The Awful Truth, is an interesting one:

Oh, this one's rich. So much so I'm going to fling my pumped up, only slightly limp wrists right past that network pretty boy who's doing every gym-going dude he can, not to mention the gorgeous matinee idol's daddy who's practically doing the same, as of late. Rather predictable, both of these closeted guys, if you ask me.
More fun, in my jaded book, would be Plumper Dumper's newfound cojones. But let me, uh, back up first, 'kay?
Mr. Dumper, also a man known more for his male-on-male activities than his female goings-on, flabbergasted more than a few of us fruits when he married Bertha Broom-Rider. Suddenly, P.D. attempted to be more discreet in his fraternizing 'n' fellah-collecting--activities he did not curb once he walked down the aisle with B.B.R. Though few expected him to, 'course.
Not even Ms. B.R. She just didn't want to know exactly what it was her husband was doing hanging out with guys all the time. Maybe they were playing ball? Denial, denial, denial--sorta like my mama still expects me to ask out some nice girl, but never mind...
So, it was a mucho shockarooney to Bertha (but not the friends she blabbed to later) when Plumper officially came out of the closet recently. Just to his wife, mind you. And just to sweetly rub it in, Mr. Dumper chose one of his wife's worst days ever for the boy-bombshell delivery.

B.B.R. was the only one majorly surprised. No one else.
No wonder that babe's pro schedule is all atwitter--her noggin's, like, nowhere in the vicinity of reality.
